It's time to
get out the bowling equipment and lace up your
shoe s
for another season of league bowling!
Have you signed
up for your new league yet? If not, there is
still time to get to your local bowling center
and get signed up.
In the
meantime, make sure your
bowling game is ready for the new
season. See below for some equipment and
coaching tips as well as a cool offer from the
USBC SportStore.
Is your
equipment ready for league season?
Now that league
season has arrived, it's an excellent time to
take a good look at your bowling equipment.
How does your
bowling ball look and fit? You should
consider stopping by your local pro shop to
make certain everything still fits properly,
and possibly have your bowling ball cleaned so
it will perform at its optimum level. A simple
polish or sanding, or even a resurface, can
make your bowling ball roll much better. If
your equipment has seen better days, now is a
great time to check out the new
bowling balls that are on the market.
Most manufacturers have released several new
balls since your league ended last spring.
While you are
in the pro shop, be sure to ask about the best
way to keep your bowling ball clean, and
rolling like the day you purchased it. Taking
care of your equipment will make it last
longer and perform better. Your local pro shop
operator will be able to tell you the best way
to keep your equipment in top shape.
USBC
Coaching Tip: How to get back in bowling form
Some tips from
USBC Coaching Specialist Stephen Padilla:
There are a few
things to remember when carving out time to
gear up for the league season. First, make
time to practice. If you haven't been hitting
the lanes as often during the summer, work in
a few extra hours of practice time to sharpen
the skills. Next, visit the pro shop for a
tune up. If it's cleaning and maintaining
last year's nuggets that still have strikes
and spares left
in
them or upgrading to this season's latest and
greatest, make sure your accessories for being
competitive are ready when it comes time to
perform.
If you're
comfortable with equipment and are not quite
sure how to get ready, get a lesson. Work
with a certified coach and have an extra set
of eyes on your game or take a video camera to
your practice sessions and work on becoming
your own coach. You might be surprised to
know how many people have never seem
themselves bowl and more often than not,
looking at your own style can help correct
more obvious issues.
Finally,
practice spares. Avoid the reset buttons on
the ball returns and shoot every pin left
standing. To increase your average make a good
strike ball delivery and an even better spare
attempt.
It shouldn't
take long to get back into shape and with the
right steps, this year's success on the lanes
can out perform last season's.
