USBC Youth Events right around the corner
The best youth bowlers in the country are
set to invade Detroit, Mich., this July.
This year, a record number of nearly 4,500
bowlers will be competing for thousands of
dollars in scholarships and prizes.
The youth events begin on July 5 with the
USBC Junior Gold Championships. The event
sold out all 1,728 spots in record time
this year. Bowlers will compete on USBC
certified Sport Bowling conditions for
spots on Junior Team USA as well as
$100,000 in scholarship money. This year's
event features a revised format.
Competitors will bowl three six-game
qualifying blocks before the field is cut
to the top 105 males and 57 females. Those
athletes will bowl two more six-game
semifinal blocks before the field is cut
to the final 16 males and females for
match play on July 11.
The
USBC Youth Open Championships is entering
its second year. The tournament is open to
any certified USBC Youth member. Bowlers
will compete in a similar format as the
USBC Open Championships, but will be
competing for scholarships and prizes. Do

Youth bowlers who qualify at the local,
sectional and state level are set to
compete nationally in the Pepsi USBC Youth
Championships. Bowlers of all ages and
skill levels will be looking to earn
scholarships and bids to the international
finals.
U.S. Women's Open to return this fall
The U.S. Women's Open will take place July
31 through Aug. 6 at
Brunswick Zone XL in Romeoville,
Ill. ESPN will televise the tournament for
five consecutive Sundays, beginning Sept.
7.
Liz Johnson looks to defend her title in
2008 after defeating Team USA's
Shannon O'Keefe, 248-215, in the
2007 finals.
The
first four ESPN telecasts will consist of
the round of 16 and quarterfinal matches.
The final telecast, set to air on Oct. 5,
will consist of semifinal matches and the
championship match.
The U.S. Women's Open is open to any USBC
female member, and features the best
professional and amateur bowlers in the
world. If you would like to compete, there

USBC made a major announcement June 9
regarding the future sites for the
Open/Women's Championships. Beginning in
2011, the tournaments will make a 13 event
run at Disney World through 2029.

National Bowling Week festivities on the
horizon
National Bowling Week is back in 2008, and
it's bigger than ever! This year, National
Bowling Week will run for eight days
beginning Aug. 23. The week culminates on
Aug. 30 as bowlers across the country will
attempt to set a new world record for the
most games bowled in a single 24-hour
